CHAPTER 5

The Miracles of Our Lord

(Can He?  Yes He Can!)

If you had been living during the days when Jesus walked on this earth (especially the three years before His death), what are some of the amazing things you might have seen Jesus do (Matthew 11:4-5)? ___________________________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________________________

A miracle is a wonderful happening that is beyond the known laws of nature. For example, if you were to throw a piece of iron into a river, what would happen? Would it float or sink? _________ The law of gravity says that objects made of iron will sink! Read 2 Kings 6:1-7. Was this a miracle?  _______  Why?  _______________________________________________

Why is God able to perform miracles (Genesis 18:14; Matthew 19:26)? _________________________________________________________

What did we learn about Jesus Christ in the last chapter? Was He only a man or was He more than a man? ________________________________________ Was Jesus able to do mighty and miraculous things? _______ What is one powerful thing that Jesus did long, long ago (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16)? ________________________________________________________

Why did Jesus perform mighty miracles? Was it only to heal the sick and give sight to the blind? Jesus loved these people and was concerned about their physical problems, but were there other reasons why Jesus performed miracles?

In Mark 2:10-11, Jesus told the people why He healed a paralytic (paralyzed) man. Circle the correct answer:

a. Jesus healed this man so that the people would know how kind and loving He was.

b. Jesus healed this man so that the people would know that He was able to forgive sins.

c. Jesus healed this man because he felt sorry for him and didn’t want him to suffer any longer.

How did this healing miracle prove that Jesus could forgive sins? In Mark 2:5 Jesus told the sick man that his S_______ were forgiven. Who is the only Person who can forgive sins (Mark 2:7?_______  Did the Jewish scribes believe that Jesus was able to forgive sins (Mark 2:5-8)? __________________

Can you look into a person’s heart and see if his sins are forgiven? _______ Is the forgiveness of sins something that takes place on the outside or the inside of a person? _____________________ The unbelieving Jews could have said, "Jesus, we don’t believe You! You did not really forgive this man’s sins; only God can do that!"

Jesus then did an amazing miracle. What did He do (Mark 2:11-12)? ______________________________________________________________________________ Was this something they could all see (Mark 2:12)? _____________ Suppose the Jews had said, "Jesus, we don’t believe You. You did not really heal this man!"   Would this be a foolish thing to say?  ________ Why? ________________________________________________

If Jesus could perform this great healing miracle, then this proves that He can also perform an even greater miracle, the miracle of forgiveness (Mark 2:10).  The same God who can take care of the sickness is the same God who can take care of sin!

What about you? How can you prove to others that your sins have been forgiven?

HOW CAN OTHERS
KNOW?

HOW CAN  I
SHOW THEM?

How can you show your friends that God has saved you and forgiven all your sins? They can see if you are clean on the outside (if you have had a bath and washed behind the ears, etc.), but can they see how clean you are on the inside? How can you prove to them that your sins are forgiven and you really belong to God. See John 3:8. Can you see the wind? How do you know the wind is there? If the wind is really blowing it does something and you see its effects!  You can see a kite flying in the air.  You can see a sailboat move across the water.   You can see leaves being blown everywhere.

If you are really forgiven, should your life show it? How?

The miracles that Jesus performed prove that He is also able to do much greater miracles in the hearts of men and women, boys and girls! Here are some examples:

1) What miracle did Jesus do in John 9:1, 6-7?  ___________________________________________________________________________

Is there another kind of blindness that is even worse than the kind that this man had (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)? _________ God is able "to ______________ their______________ " (Acts 26:18) and give them spiritual sight! We sing the hymn, "I....was blind but now I see" (Amazing Grace). Was this true about you? Have you received your sight? Which is more important, physical sight or spiritual sight? Would you rather be a blind man who is saved or a person with perfect 20/20 vision who is headed for hell?

2) What miracle did Jesus do in John 11:14,43-44?  ___________________________________________________________________________

Is there another kind of death that is even worse than what Lazarus experienced (Ephesians 2:1)? __________  Is God able to give life to those who are spiritually dead (John 5:24; 6:47; 1 John 5:12)? __________ Have you passed from death unto life?

3) What miracle did Jesus do in Mark 1:23-27?  ___________________________________________________________________________

It seems terrible to be possessed by an evil demon.  All those who are unsaved have a relationship with the devil, even if they are not demon possessed.  The Bible teaches that every unsaved person is a child of the ______________ (1 John 3:10). What is God able to do with those who are under the power and authority of Satan (Acts 26:18 and Colossians 1:13)?
______________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________________
Has God delivered you from Satan’s clutches?

4) What miracle did Jesus do in Mark 1:40-42?  ____________________________________________________________________________

Leprosy was a terrible disease which would eat away at and destroy the body. Is there something even more terrible than leprosy that destroys men from the inside, something from which men need to be cleansed (James 1:15)? __________________ Is God able to cleanse men from this number one killer (1 John 1:7,9; 2:12)? ___________ Has God cured you of this terrible disease of the heart (Jeremiah 17:9)? ________

Remember, every sick, diseased, crippled and leprous person Jesus ever healed finally died anyway, every one of them! And think of poor Lazarus (John chapter 11). Jesus raised him from the dead, but later he died again too. Would you like to die twice?

Man’s greatest problem is not his vision or his physical health. Though we all would like to be in good physical health, this is not the most important thing. The most important thing is to have a living and real and wonderful relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. This is called the miracle of salvation!

Has this greatest miracle taken place in your life? If so, why not tell others about the Saviour so that they might trust Him and experience this miracle also.

We’re just NOBODIES (John 3:30; Galatians 2:20; 6:3; Romans 12:3)

telling EVERYBODY

about SOMEBODY

who can powerfully and miraculously save ANYBODY!
